A businesswoman rather than an actor, and the reason her clothes get looked at so hard: she is on the boards of Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail, she read psychology and South Asian studies at Yale before an MBA at Stanford, and Reliance Retail is the company that brought a long list of foreign labels into India in the first place. Bazaar India named her Icon of the Year at the inaugural edition of its Women of the Year awards in October 2024, citing her part in that. She dresses like someone who buys clothes for a living — European couture houses worn plainly, one strong silhouette at a time, and almost always built on a hard contrast of two colours rather than on ornament. The result copies unusually well for a wardrobe at that price, because the shapes underneath are simple.
