The nude draped gown from the twenty-year cover shoot

This is not a costume. Jyothika does not wear this in a film — she wore it to be photographed, for The Hollywood Reporter India's August 2026 cover, the first time she and Suriya had done a shoot together in twenty years. Their twentieth wedding anniversary falls on 11 September; the pictures went up several weeks ahead of it, alongside an Anupama Chopra interview about the marriage, the work and the children. He is in crumpled ivory throughout. She is in this.

The gown is a floor-length column in a nude that sits somewhere between blush and warm beige, and the whole thing is one fabric: a very fine hand-pleated chiffon, matte, with no sheen at all. That matters more than it sounds. The pleats are tiny and irregular, closer to a crinkle than to a knife pleat, so the surface reads as texture rather than as shine, and in the garden light it goes almost the colour of her skin.

The construction is Grecian and it is simpler than it looks. A soft cowl of the same pleated chiffon swags across the chest and hangs from both shoulders — she wears it pulled low, so both shoulders are bare and the drape sits down on the arms rather than up on the collarbone. From the left shoulder a long chiffon streamer falls loose past the hip and keeps moving whenever she does; there is a shot of a stylist reaching in to fix her hair where the whole thing lifts. Under the cowl, the bodice is finely ruched into a wide ruched waistband, and below that the skirt falls in an unbroken pleated column with a slit high on the leg.

That gown is Aroka's Athena Ruched Gown, and it is buyable: ₹55,000 from the label's own store, in stock in every size at the time of writing. Aroka is a Delhi ready-to-wear house founded in 2018 by Karan Ahuja and Shweta Agarwal, and their own copy describes exactly what is on screen — airy chiffon over a modal satin base, a signature ruched bodice, an attached chiffon scarf that drapes from the shoulders, a hand-ruched floor-length skirt and a thigh-high slit. The multi-brand retailer KAANJJ lists the same style at ₹71,500. Both links are on the piece below; the brand's own price is the one that leads, because it is the one you should pay.

The only other thing she is wearing is a stack of about eight thin gold bangles on her right wrist, and it is worth looking at closely, because it is not a matched set. Most of them are plain polished rounds. One carries fine granulated work. Two or three are banded in coloured enamel — a yellow, a blue, a green — the kind of thing that would look like an accident on a red carpet and reads, next to a bare nude column, as the one deliberately warm note in the picture. Nobody has credited them, so nobody is going to be told who made them here. The two sets at the bottom of this page are ours, and between them they cost seven hundred rupees.

Three things are deliberately absent. Her shoes: she is behind a stone ledge or cropped above the knee in every frame of this sequence, and the hem and her feet are never on screen together, so there is nothing to describe and nothing to sell you. Her earrings: her hair is down and covers both ears from start to finish. And a stylist's name — several outlets have credited GKD.edit and Radhika Mehra for this shoot, and that credit is real, but it belongs to the olive dress and jacket she wears later in the same session, not to this gown. Putting the wrong label on a garment is the fastest way to make every other page on this site worthless, so it is not done here.
