The sand tissue saree and gold flower slides

It is an ordinary weekday outfit, which is exactly why it is worth breaking down: almost every part of it is something the high street actually stocks.

The saree is a plain sand-beige handloom in pure cotton. No print, no motif, no contrast border — the body carries a fine tonal self-stripe that only shows where the light catches the drape, and the hem runs a shade darker than the field. It is worn in a simple drape with the pallu straight over the left shoulder, and it reads matte rather than shiny, which is what separates it from the festive gold tissue sarees it would otherwise sit beside on a rail.

All the decoration is in the blouse, and it is a deep wine — close to blackberry — cut with an elbow-length sleeve.
