The Lilac Ruffle Mini

This one is not a costume. It is what Krithi Shetty wore to walk out of a venue whose sign reads "gigi", filmed by paparazzi as she stopped, waved and posed on the black runner outside. Nobody has said what the evening was, where it was or when, so neither do we.

The dress, piece by piece. A lilac silk-organza mini printed with soft coral and pink blooms and sage-green leaves. The bodice is a straight-necked, boned corset — you can see the seams running down it — and across the centre of the neckline sits a cluster of organza rosettes, gathered so they stand off the body. One ruffle rises off her shoulder like a cap. Below the waist the skirt breaks into three or four tiers of ruffles, each edged in a fine pink piped hem, and at the back of the hip a big organza ruffle stands out like a bow.

Around it: a pale ice-blue quilted wallet-on-chain bag with a small silver clasp and a chain threaded with leather, carried in both hands; flat rose-gold sandals with a braided toe strap and ties that wind up to the middle of the calf; and a thin chain at the throat.

Who made it? The clip that went round credits the dress to Mahima Mahajan's GISELE, at ₹25,000. We checked the label's own store. GISELE is real, it is on sale, and the lilac organza print looks like the one she is wearing — but GISELE has a deep V-neck with flutter-ruffle straps, and hers has a straight corset neckline with rosettes. Nothing in the label's current catalogue has her cut, so it looks like a version made for her. We show GISELE below as the closest thing the label sells, not as her dress.

We have not named the bag's maker, because a paparazzi clip is not enough to confirm one. The necklace never comes sharp enough to match, so it is not a piece. The bag and the sandals below are our own picks.
