One of Tamil cinema’s most enduring leading actors. Her costuming tends to be deliberately understated — which is exactly why the pieces she wears on screen end up everywhere afterwards. Off screen she dresses the same way: at state and civic events she turns up in a plain silk saree and a contrast blouse rather than anything worked, and the interest is always in one detail — a weave, a butta, a pair of earrings — instead of the whole outfit shouting at once. The same restraint carries into how she dresses in Western clothes: a single strong colour on top, plain separates under it, and the expensive things kept to the bag and the sunglasses.
